Stone masonry in Visalia CA - stone set the right way for the wall behind it
Got a plain wall you want faced in stone? We'll match the stone and the way it's set to the wall behind it.

I come out and write your estimate
I come out to look at the job myself and write the estimate, so the person telling you what the stone needs is the one who'll be on site. A small crew and I do the work, and I'm there while it's done.
Learned walls from the footing up
I spent my first years laying block and brick on new construction, where I learned how a wall goes together from the footing up. Since 2023 we've put that to work on homes people already live in.

Stone masonry in Visalia, matched to your wall
Stone masonry is setting natural or manufactured stone into walls, fences and paving, with or without mortar. In Visalia, CA, we do it for homeowners who want a block wall faced in stone, a new stone wall in the yard, or older stone work put right.
Most calls we get from Visalia and the cities around it start with a bare block wall someone's tired of looking at, a house front they want faced in stone, or stone work cracking at the joints. Either way, the stone, the way it's held on and the wall behind it have to suit each other. I'd rather fix what's actually failing than tear out good work, and I'll explain why we chose the materials we did.
The price moves mostly with how much wall face there is, whether you pick natural or manufactured stone, and whether the wall behind needs work before any stone goes on. Height and how easy the wall is to reach matter too. The schedule turns on that same prep and on how soon your stone can be delivered. Once I've seen the wall, I'll tell you what I'd do and write up an estimate with your own figure.
Stone facing, stone walls and the wall behind them
Bonded or anchored, picked for the wall
Stone goes on a wall one of two ways. It's either bonded on with mortar, which the trade calls adhered, or hung on metal ties, called anchored, and which way depends on the wall and the stone, so I'll tell you which we'd use and why. Bonded stone moves with whatever it's stuck to. A poured concrete or block wall is stiff, which suits it well, while a wood or steel framed wall flexes much more and has to be built as rigid as possible before it carries stone.
Natural stone or manufactured stone
Natural stone is quarried rock, heavy and no two pieces alike. Manufactured stone is a lighter product cast from cement and aggregate to look like natural stone, and it carries no load, so it's a facing and not part of what holds the wall up. Whichever you like, we check that it's meant for outdoor use before it's ordered. For a garden wall with no mortar at all, stacked rock can stand on its own weight, size, shape and the friction between the pieces.
Sound wall first, full joints after
Stone is only as good as what's behind it. A trade group's guide says manufactured stone belongs on sound walls, not over one that's breaking down or over foam-backed stucco called EIFS, so if the wall or footing under it is failing, we start with foundation repair. Mortar has to fill completely behind each stone and against the wall, because even small gaps can collect water. Later on, thin cracks in the joints usually leave the stone sound, but they should be filled with fresh mortar, the same work as our brick pointing, to keep moisture out.

You call or send the form
Call (559) 409-1176 or send the form, and we'll set a time to come out. Photos of the wall, what it's built from and roughly how big it is help me come ready with the right questions.
I look at the wall in person
I look at the wall and the stone you have in mind, tell you what I see and what I'd do about it, and write up an estimate. If something underneath needs fixing first, I'll say so and why.
We do the work and walk it
Once you say go, we keep your house and yard protected while we work, because a home with people in it isn't a bare lot. Before we pack up, we walk the finished stone with you and go over anything you want to ask.
Stone masonry questions from Visalia homeowners
Which stone veneer method is right for my wall in Visalia?
The right method is the one your wall and stone point to, not the one a mason happens to prefer. A stone trade group's course says the project, the structural support, the weight the wall will carry, the kind of stone and even local climate often show whether bonding or anchoring fits. Ask your mason which of those decided it.
Which natural stone holds up outdoors around Visalia?
Look for stone with a history of standing up to the weather where you live, since not every natural stone is suggested for outdoor use. That's the advice in an older industry guide, which also says you can ask your supplier to certify the stone suits your area's weather.
Who is allowed to build stone walls in California?
Hire a contractor licensed in the masonry class by the state contractors board, because that class covers natural and manufactured stone for walls, fences and paving. You can also ask for any subcontractor's name and license number on a home improvement contract, and any change to the contract has to be in writing and tell you your right to cancel.
How much does natural stone veneer cost to install?
Installing natural stone veneer usually costs about $26 to $32 per square foot across the US, and that's a national figure, not our price. Your own figure turns on the stone, the method and how much work the wall needs first, which I'll sort out when I see it and put in your estimate.
